A basic schematic map displaying visually, rather than as a chart, one-way fares and scheduled travel times to all other BART stations from Civic Center. Like our Spider Map, it is a prototype that could be customized for each station, as well as Caltrain stations (due to its lack of reliability, Muni might be problematic). Because fares are the same from all Market Street stations, you can use this map to calculate fares from Powell, Montgomery or Embarcadero (BART's point-to-point fare system, while more equitable than flat or zone fares, can be confusing). We got the idea for a map showing travel times from a BART map in the book Transit Maps of the World; produced during the planning process, it was a bit optimistic — it projected, for example, a travel time from Concord to Embarcadero of 34 minutes, rather than 41. Early BART maps in brochures, meanwhile, included fares, as does this website.
