This map attempts to do several things. First, it presents all existing and planned rail and bus rapid transit routes in the city as an integrated network; in other words, it is not primarily a Muni map, nor a BART map. Second, it includes rapid buses, but doesn't blur the distinctions between different modes (as San Francisco is planning a BRT network that is likely to be marketed as part of the Muni Metro, this will be an important task). Finally, it includes all major transit projects in advanced stages of development. Visually, the map draws inspiration from Eddie Jabbour's proposed Kick Map for the New York City Subway, as well as Swiss and German maps.
