Proposed prototype for transfer guides in Bay Area transit stations and at major stops, based on spider maps (so called for their hub-and-spoke appearance) developed for agencies in London and Los Angeles by CHK (which in turn are modeled after the iconic London Underground tube map). Existing information about intermodal connections at local train stations typically consists solely of a systemwide map, or seperate maps if several agencies serve the station. These maps provide both too much and too little information: Routes connecting to and destinations accessible from the station can be difficult or impossible to find on the maps, and stop locations are not shown. This has the potential to deter users from taking future trips on transit, and to depress ridership. The prototype could be applied not just to BART, but at all rail and bus hubs.
